Jnanendra Prasad Goswami (old classical)

Jnanendra Prasad Goswami was a renowned Indian classical vocal artist from Bishunpur Gharana. Bishnupur Gharana essentially was a centre for Drupad culture. Dhrupad is one of the four main genres of Indian classical music. The word dhrupad is a shortened form of dhruvapada (dhruva: something that is stable, fixed and true and pada: the text of a song). Dhruvapada or dhrupad therefore means a genre of songs that is stable, deep and true. Jnanendra Prasad Goswami initially learnt music from Radhika Prasad Goswami, the music teacher of Rabindra Nath Tagore and then joined to Ustad Faiyaz Khan. Jnanendra Prasad Goswami was the nephew of Radhika Prasad Goswami. Rabindra Nath Tagore also liked him very much. He was very close friend of Kazi Nazrul Islam, a famous poet in Bengali literature. He popularized raagpradhan and Nazrul Geeti in Bengal. "Shunyae Buke Pankhi Mor Aai" was one the most popular Nazrul Geeti during that era.
