Here is the storyline of the movie.

Putul is a boy of eleven. A loner, he is the only son of an affluent couple who remain extremely busy all day long. His parents love him very much because he is their only child. Putul does not have any freedom whatsoever to do anything on his own. Lonely Putul spends his time listening to the chirping of the birds, making friends with the trees or talking to nature.

One day, early in the morning, Putul runs away. His inquisitiveness impels him to leave his home and he is not concerned about anything else. The magnanimity of the unrestrained environment impresses him and overwhelmed, he forgets all about his home and parents.

Putul gets acquainted with another boy of his age named Antu, a street-boy with no hearth and home. Putul is attracted to Antu because of his rebellious behaviour and the freedom to do whatever he likes. He also gets to know Antu's younger sister Morium. In course of time, he becomes one of them. Interesting incidents happen one after another. Putul goes to Mymensingh with them by train to see Antu-Morium's father. He meets their sick father, eats with them, listens to their future plan of going back to their village after saving some money. A completely different life gradually unfolds for little Putul.

Meanwhile Putul's parents are worried about their son. The Police are called in and also holy to find out his whereabouts. Advertisements appear in the missing column of the newspapers.

Putul returns to Dhaka with Antu and Morium by night train. When Antu and Morium arrive in front of the gate of Putul's home early in the morning, realise for the first time that there exists a big gap between them. The realization that he has to leave Antu and Morium soon makes Putul sad. He feels guilty for being so rich. He almost runs away from them and comes home with tearful eyes. Antu and Morium also return to their place with heavy hearts. In a biting winter dawn, the three children confront a puzzling question for which they have no answer and they do not know if they will ever find any.
