Plot Outline: Abinash is a very succesful musician and his muse is his one time girlfriend Rani (Its the phonetic opposite of Neera, in case you haven't noticed). He had spurned Rani and gone abroad, but he hasn't forgotten her. Rani, in the meantime, has married a successful finance executive, has a son and teaches in a dance school. She's bored and her sex-life is unexciting.
Six years later, Abinash returns, searches Rani out and tells her that he keeps wondering what it would be like to make love to her. He asks her to sleep with him, just once, so that he can find out for himself and thus be free from his uncertainties and insecurity.
Rani refuses, but Abinash is persistent....
Review: Based on a short story by Sunil Gangopadhyay, this is a story about a selfish man and a bored woman. Abinash is breathtaking in his arrogance and effrontery, yet Rani is flattered by his attentions. He is after all rich famous and obviosly enamoured of her. Then, when Abinash finally gets what he wants, he has no use for her any more.
There's a lot to like in this movie. The initial hesitation of Rani and yet her obvious attraction to Abinash is well brought out. Then as he woos her persistently, her weakening, her emerging possesiveness and finally her surrender follows in a clear uncluttered sequence. I thought the last part, the rejection and Rani's feeling of being used and discarded could have been drawn out a bit, but thats my personal view.
There are bits and pieces that were really not needed. The film's basic theme would have been as strong if the jealous husband had been cut out. Rani's guilt at the delay in picking up her son may have been a suggestion that she too wants to return to her world and her anchor, but does not come out as such. Instead, I like the last scene, where by magic, Rani changes the past, so that Abinash never appears in her life. It's what she would like to do of course -- beautifully subtle!
Its not a film that grabs your attention from the first shot, but when you have seen the film, its unusual theme stays in your mind. That I think is the best part of the Director's effort. In my view this is the best film so far of Subrata Sen. Better that "Kanya" which lacked subtlety and was in any case a copy of a Hollywood film called "Crush" or even Neel Nirjaney.
Technical Notes: This rip uses the x.264 encoder/codec and a MP4 container. It will not play on a stand alone DVD player. Please use VLC player or "Media Player Classic" (with proper codecs) to view this film.
The rip has been optimised for easy computer and LCD screen viewing. I have deliberately kept the frame size large for easy viewing.
This film was earlier uploaded by DUPUR at http://www.banglatorrents.com/bangla...ockbuster.html. I am uploading this again because that torrent is no longer being seeded. Apart from that, this is a pure DVD rip, and of much better quality
Technical Specs:
Name of Film: Hatath Neerar Jannya Year: 2004 Language: Bengali Subtitles: NIL
Superb rip quality as usual. I agree with dicky and your views on Subrata Sen, he offers a lot of style without substance, specially his penchant for sexual theme often robs his films of an actual story. Thanks for the release.
My Utorrent client shows that 6 people have completed downloading and another 5 are at different stages of downloads. The statistics on this page shows one seed and no downloaders at all. Please check whats happenning. This is the second time this has happened with my uploads in quick succession.
@Pandit: Yes you are right. Subrata-babu repeatedly starts off on bold and often imaginative themes and then loses his way. It becomes an essay in intellectual pretensions and some unnecessary sexually explicit scenes.
The reason I liked this effort was there were no pretensions. The theme was based on a sexual demand and so the initial treatment, was reasonable. But when the filmamker started on the psychological and serious issue of Rani's feeling of rejection and of being used, he seemed to lose his way again. Pity!
