Two Birds

Sunsets have two characteristics in Bangladesh; they happen quickly, and they usually feature a red fireball, at least during the dry season. The Bangladeshi flag shows a red sun against a field of green – most appropriate for this verdant land.

Ship breaking yard is nothing but a terrible burden on Bangladesh now. This is dumping all the poisons and harmful chemical on our land from rest of the world!

This was recently featured in 60 minutes. Like dream said, it is a toxic dump for the rest of the world threatening wild life and the ecological balance in the area. This business started when the big cyclone of 1965 landed a ship on the beach and local businessman figured out a way to recycle the steel. Now it is a death trap with about 50 laborers dying every year from accidents. This is where we actually get most of our steel (85%) used to build houses. What a shame, we don't have to trade our future for steel just to make few local businessman/politicians rich.
