Outline: This is the second of the five great documentaries of Satyajit Ray. Its about Binode Behari Mukherjee (1904-1980), his teacher at Santiniketan. Benode Behari was a great artist, who was blind, and yet is considered one of the greatest of the renissance painters of Bengal. Trained by the great Nandalal Bose, Benode Behari painted profusely. Yet he is remembered most of all for his great murals, at least one of which was created after he became completely blind. Hence the title of the film 'The Inner Eye'.
Satyajit Ray's film is a homage to his teacher and explores the art of Benode Behari Mukherjee. He spends very little time on Mukherjee's difficulties, concentrating instead on his great creativity. But subtly, as only a Great Master can, Satyajit brings to the forefront the indomitable spirit of Benode Behari Mukherjee.
I am uploading this film as a homage to both Satyajit Ray and to his teacher Benode Behari Mukherjee.
