We are very happy to inform all that on 29th May, 2009 Manna Dey Music Archive at Rabindra Bharati University has been inaugurated by Padmabhusan Manna Dey & his wife Sm. Sulochona Dey. He was accompanied by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Karuna Sindhu Das, the Registrar Sm Tapati Mukherjee and many other dignitaries. This archive has been developed in association with and contribution from Manna Dey Sangeet Academy.

After inauguration of the archive, Vice Chancellor briefly explained about the objectives of the archive. He has also informed that Rabindra Bharati University is going to develop archives of the great artistes of contemporary of Tagore and his posterity. Manna Dey Music Archive is the first endeavor on their part in this regard.

Mrs Sulochona Dey expressed that this Manna Dey Music Archive appears a dream cum true to her.

At this occasion Dr. Gautam Roy, Secretary, Manna Dey Sangeet Academy announced to provide an award naming Manna Dey for the best student of Rabindra Sangeet of Rabindra Bharati University in each academic year from Manna Dey Sangeet Academy. He also requested to the University authority to start research work on Padmabhusan Manna Dey and on his creations. He also appealed to all to contribute all the collections of Sri Manna Dey to this central place of the archive.

Prof. Agnivo Banerjee of Rabindra Bharati University, a noted Rabindra Sangeet singer expressed his interest to start research on the musical works of Sri Manna Dey.

The souvenir, which had to come out on 1st May, 2009 on Sri Manna Dey’s birthday celebration and which could not be released due to unavoidable circumstances, has been released on this occasion by Sri Manna Dey, Sm Sulochona Dey and Prof. Karuna Sindhu Das, Vice Chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University. The souvenir is very colourful and content more than 110 colour photographs on various occasions and moods of Sri Manna Dey and also 40 articles by eminent musicians and from other fields. Such a memoir was not available prior to this. The souvenir is available at the Academy.

At the end, Sri Manna Dey sang a few Rabindra Sangeet and other modern songs. Sri Dipankar Chattyopadhyay, Sri Sudeb Dey and Sri Agnivo Banerjee also sang at that occasion.

Registrar Mrs Tapati Mukherjee offered the vote of thanks to all.


The whole program was so colourful that the long cherished dream of our Academy of utilizing the treasures of Sri Manna Dey in an academe.
