A Wonderful Morning with Sri Manna Dey The program which was scheduled to be held on 1st May, 2009 at Kalamandir, Kolkata was cancelled due to the illness of Sri Manna Dey. It was arranged on 28th June, 2009 at Mahajati Sadan, Kolkata.
The welcome address was given by Sri Satinath Mukherjee, an eminent compeer and reciter. After that a short video film was shown depicting activities of Manna Dey Sangeet Academy for the last four years.
After that Sri Manna Dey took over the dais with the standing ovation of the house full to the brim. He sang about twenty five of his gem songs for more than two and half hours by mesmerizing the audience with his voice, art, energy, liveliness and vibrancy. Two duet songs were also sang with Sm. Nirmala Mishra (from the Bengali film: Ashite Ashio Na) and with Sri Satinath Mukherjee (from the Bengali film: Stree).
At the end Sri Mrinal Banerjee, eminent Music Director and acting President of Manna Dey Sangeet Academy presented a flower bouquet to Sri Manna Dey. Gr. Gautam Roy, Secretary, Manna Dey Sangeet Academy presented a memento to Sri Dey. Ms. Rimjhim Roy, Ms. Mithu Bhattacharya, Ms. Sikha Maity and Ms. Rupa Sarkar presented sweets and patto-bostro to Sri Dey.
Manna Dey Sangeet Academy Awards, 2009 was presented by Sri Manna Dey at this occasion. The competition was held at Moulali Yuba Kendra, Kolkata on 25th April, 2009. Sri Sanat Paul stood first, Sm. Aparajita Kundu stood 2nd and Sri Soumen Bhattacharya stood 3rd position.
The vote of thanks was given by Sri Satinath Mukherjee at the end.
