Thogh i don't stay permanently, I had some trainings and tours for over a month to North America and FarEastern countries. So far none was good due to the immense love and passion i had for my country and for my family. Missing my near and dear ones hurt me the most while staying abroad. i saw Niagara from the Canadian side now its turn to watch from the US Side. Cheers Everyone.

1)koto din dhore desh er baire achi, kothai achi, keno achi (job, study etc...)
in june it will be 6 years i am out of my country. Doing my associate and also a part time job. well, i came here for my parents. staying here to have a good education and good job, also i enjoy the freedom here.

2)bidesh e thakar problem guli ki? (subidha mone hoi sobai jaani security, money no need to mention )

well there are lots of problem for the beginners. first adopt new culture, new enviornment, new people, and language. when i came here i had to start doing job and also maintain study at the same time. its hard to do both. Cold is another big issue. i hate cold.

3)prothom ashar pore bangali der kach theke kemon support peyechi.local ppl der achoron i ba kemon chilo (ora racist kina etc...)

lolz, i will mention my community people is not good enough. yah, they welcomed me but then i found they are very complicated minded. local people were good. they were supportive even though they were american people.

4)kokhono ki mone hoi je 'eshe bhul korlam' ba 'shob chere ferot chole jabo' (nt possible to go back for most of us,just wishful thinking)

HMM, i never wanted to come here. i had to give up my wel planned dream to come here. it dissapoint me when i think of it. I have faced lots of problem which sometime make me feel, life is more complicated than before. but sometimes i think, it was good for me to grow up this way. I do wanna go back, but not now. its a land of possibilities, so i am gonna utilize it.

5)desh e ka ke shob cheye besh miss koren

OH i miss everyone. my friends and relatives.

6)aaro ja ja apnar mone ashe, likhun pls.kono memorable experience thakle likhen

lolz, ok let me share a funny experinece. when i first came here i was so dumb that i used to sit at home and just watched t.v for most of the time. then oneday i saw on t.v news that police are looking for a rapist and they informed us to becareful from that person. it was 10 o clock at night. suddenly someone knocked the front door. i was home alone, and got so scared thought the rapist is here and came to kill me. i got froze, couldnt move for a while. then i asked, who is it? no one answered but started to knock agian. i started to cry and call my friends house. uncle got scared , what happen to me. then uncle called my dad, he came home hurry and found that the person who was knocking it was our neighbour.

I felt shy of my foolishness. now it makes me laugh when i think of it. :)

there is a lots of memorable experience but its better to stop here..lolz.

OK i know people who are living abroad its hard to find inner peace here. but i think God has given us opportunity to do something good in life. so, i hope everyone will utilize it and make our country proud.:)

thanks to all...

um...............My post a is a bit long. So, I'm extremely sorry for any inconvenience caused by that. But I really wanted to share my experience with someone.
1) koto din dhore desh er baire achi, kothai achi, keno achi?
- I've been here, in Australia, for last 5 years. So it has been quite a long time. Keno achi? Unlike others, I am not here just because my parents decided to give us a peaceful, successful life, or something like that, because, we aren’t really any better here than we were in Bangladesh. We are here because my dad is doing his PhD and he wanted to show us that living abroad isn’t that fascinating as we think.

2) bidesh e thakar shubidha guli ki?
- Well the first thing that comes to my mind is not traffic jam but load shedding , I know a lot of people are surprised, but I have had experiences of traffic jam in Melbourne which was as bad as Bangladesh. Then another positive thing is the shops, like they are fixed price and staff, (though if you don’t check at list three similar shops, you will have to pay a lot more, even in different shops of same companies). And then there are the internet payment facilities etc. I mean there are a lot of facilities, you can hardly ignore them.

3) bidesh e thakar problem guli ki?
- There are many different problems. The main problemis cultural confusion. You get confused on which one two follow, and when living in a country, ignoring their culture is practically impossible and accepting only the good parts of it even more impossible. Then obviously there’s racism. Different languages, different cultures and even different emotions.

4) prothom ashar pore bangali der kach theke kemon support peyechi. Local ppl der achoron i ba kemon chilo?
- We didn’t really need anyone’s actual support. We basically needed some psychological support, which we didn’t get from anyone, because they knew that we are not going to stay here permanently. And whenever ppl heard that we will be going back after my dad finishes his PhD everyone looked at us as if we ran away from mental asylum or something. But the aussies actually helped a lot. They were really interested on hearing about our country and culture. And they thought it’s a quite correct thinking of us if we are considering going back.

5) kokhono ki mone hoi je 'eshe bhul korlam' ba 'shob chere ferot chole jabo'?
- That doesn’t really apply for me. Karon amra to chole jabo thik korei ashchhi. Amar dad unar job theke study leave niye ekhane ashchhen. So he will definitely have to go back and join his job. They are actually waiting for me to finish my degree now, as it was practically impossiblr for me to get into the unis in Bangladesh as the study system is completely different.

6) desh e ki ki shob cheye besh miss koren?
- Of course the relatives, there’s nothing to say about that. And then everything. I spent all my life in Dhaka University campus. I miss that place enormously. But if I have to be discreet, to be truthful the thing I miss most in Bangladesh is the British council, public library and the book shops in new market, lol.

7) EXTRA:
- I love Bangladesh no matter what. Bhalo kharap shob deshei ase. Amar Australia teo jotheshto baje experience ache. And there are some places in Melbourne where we are strictly forbidden to go by ourselves. And I don’t have any more freedom here than I had in Bangladesh (I am a girl by the way). Of course I can go to places by myself, but even then, if it gets a bit darker and if I am out by myself or even with a friend, ppl still talk about that. So what’s the point? What's the difference?

I know my writing is very long and there are a lot of people who are not going to like what I said. Therefore, I am really sorry if I have hurt anyone’s feelings. My intention was not to hurt anyone but merely to honestly express my feelings, as I was looking for an opportunity to tell this to someone.

hi feluda,

first of all thanks for sharing your good and bad experiences with us. yes, we all have some kinds of agony being abroad. i agree with most of your comments except a few.

world famous scientist einstein said, once you are immigrants you are immigrants the whole life. like we are in case of a "golok dhadha". chaileo er theke ber hote parchina.

i came to sweden as a research student. and felt the same as you mentioned. local BD people didnt want to mix with me/us as we were here as student and will be back when study is finished. but when i managed to get permanent resident parmit, people attitude changed.

but there are still some conflicts between researcher/students and local people lacking of proper education. they see us as their opponents as we have education and better job whch they lack!

we miss everything here. there are differences, cultural, langual, social and many more. but i like differentiations as it is a chance to learn about other people. there are racism in sweden as in other part of europe. but it is better than other countries.

ofcourse, we miss family, friends and BD atmosphare here. we miss mukto hawa, TSC-te ghure berano (i was a student at DU). ekhane kebol cold. swedish national anthem is like this:

you are old
you are free....

i changed it as follows:

you are cold
you are boring

but still we are here. as i said, we are in the golok dhadha. er theke ber hote parchina.....

Salam to all

my experience have been, so far, excellent. I worked for NHS part -time and doing post grad in Economics. Whether a person enjoys his stay in a certain areas depends on the kind of people he spends with. I have been very fortunate to meet some of the best people both from Bangladeshi (origin) and non-bangladeshi Muslim and non-Muslim coumminities. I found some of the studnets here quite repulsive as they were trying to have their traditional AL/BNP politics, in the sense that it was always to the extent of party worship.

i have met some excellent people who are working top level management and research organisation here in UK who are from Sylhet and from other areas.

That is what I feel when I went to North America and Singapore in a few occasions.
