Poncheeshe Boishakh is celebrated to pay the homage to the great scholar of Bangla literature, Rabindra Nath Tagore.

Rabindranath Tagore became a Nobel Laureate in 1913 in recognition of his poetic brilliance, for "
Gitanjali". Tagore also famous as
“Kobi guru” or
“Bishsho kobi” is considered as one of the greatest scholars of 20th century. His literary works have won worldwide acclamations. His poetic work "Gitanjali" was especially venerated throughout Europe. His works reflect a unique blend of Bangla poetry and spiritual mysticism. Through the medium of short stories, novels and theatre, the great scholar was successful to preserve the cultural identity of Bangalis.
This prolific author wrote a number of dance dramas, plays, short stories and novels. He was also an artist. There is a definite form of music that has been attributed to the cultural icon gaining popularity in the region. The music, called as Rabindra-Sangeet, is a mixture of classical music and popular folklore of Bangla.
Rabinranath Tagore, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, is also the lyricist of Bangladesh's national anthem. Although Tagore died before his nation was truly established, he was one of the key cultural influences on a country that fought through language.
