Re: Hortal!

I don't think after 1996 HARTAL in BD took any effect in Dhaka situation as The bus and other public transport is available on the road frequently. Gulshan, Banani, Uttara was never under any influence of hartal and every thing is normal in these areas. Some places in Dhaka, like Zero point, AL office, BNP office area is the extream areas to avoid. No one cares about hartal in BD any more as AL/BNP took all the fun out of it.

When the opposition parties are not happy about government’s activities, they start protesting about it. In developed countries this protesting takes place in the parliament. Unfortunately for Bangladesh, opposition parties prefer to protest on the street. This is because no one follows what goes on in the parliament building.

People have no other options than noticing when their normal activity gets disrupted by some brutal bombing or activities like hartal. When the school children finds out that they don’t have to come to school next day, they starts wondering about the reason. As well as school children their parents & everyone else starts wondering about such a disruption. Than we are bound to notice that the opposition parties are not happy about the government’s activities. As a result, they prefer to protect our interest. Most of the time this is done by burning civilian cars or attacking poor rickshaw puller for trying to earn some money to feed their children.

When the same opposition party runs the government, they start making big statements about Hartal’s harmful effect on our economy. Than the party on opposition decides to take the street and pull out our railway lines by calling hartal.

I tried to keep it simple and away from any political discussion.
