Note that it is time consuming and you won’t get so much profit of it. Once the quality is lost when converted from DVD to DAT/MPEG, you never be able to recover the original quality. Instead you may loose a little quality again converting into avi with XviD/Vidx codecs. But you will be satisfied with the small file size but good quality. If you have any uncompressed video i.e. from your HandyCam/Video camera you will gain size by converting into avi format as avi (XviD/Divx) is getting very popular nowadays. Softwares necessary to convert: VirtualDubMod v. 1.6.11 latest, Xvid and Divx codecs. You can get the codecs when you install K-Lite Mega codec pack. Follow the steps described bellow: Step one: opening video file with VirtualDubMod: Once you have downloaded VirtualDubMod unzip the zip file into a known directory. Run the “ Auxsetup” and install handler. Then run VirtualDub. Open the video file you want to convert. VirtualDubMod supports most of the video formats. Step 2: Video settings: i) Full compressing mode: Select “ Full compressing mode” from the “Video” Menu. ii) Compression: choose XviD MPEG-4 codec and then click on the “ Configure”. From Profile @ Level choose “( unrestricted)”. Encoding type: “Single pass”. Target bitrate: 600 MB for 2 (two) hours video. The smallest size you can choose is 400 MB for good quality, but with 600 MB you will get excellent quality. You can even calculate the quality by clicking on “calc” button. Click “OK” and again “OK” to come back on main program. iii) Filters: There are a good numbers of filters available on the net for free you can use with VirtualDubMod. But be sure the more filter you use the longer it will take to convert. I normally use two filters only 1) Smart Deinterlace 2.8 beta and 2) resize. The video we get from the Cameras or DVD is interlaced and need to deinterlace for better video in motion pictures. The resize filter is to resize the picture size according to your need. The top and the bottom of the video picture are sometimes unnecessary and can be excluded by this filter. But you have to be careful when use this filter. You have to keep the aspect ratio from the original video (in most cases it is 1.333/ i.e. 320X240 pixels as frame size). You have to be very good in math to do this. At the "File Mode" choose "Lancsoz3", it is better. Step 3: Audio: i) Choose “ Full compressing mode” from the “ Audio” Menu. ii) From “ Compression” choose Lame MP3 or MPEG Layer-3 and at the right side 48/41 KHz with at least 128 kbps CBR Stereo. You can choose even higher bitrate for better audio. If you have separate audio as wav format you choose “Wav audio” from the “Audio” menu. It is necessary when you have ripped video and audio separately from DVD. For DAT/MPEG conversion you choose “Source audio” which is selected as default. Step 4: Finally you save the file from the “File” menu. Choose “ Save as avi”. It will then start dubbing/converting. Please dont forget to leave your feedback and suggestions! __________________ _______ TeolABM | 10-23-2005, 04:02 AM | | Deferential BT Legend | | Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: Minnesota, USA Posts: 527 Thanks: 37 Thanked 233 Times in 34 Posts Rep Power: 32 UL: 153.59 gb DL: 74.06 gb Ratio: 2.07 | | | Good job!!! !! ! I encoded the song, Ami Banglay Gaan gai (72MB) with XviD and Lame AC3 audio and it came out to be only 20 MB with very reasonaable quality!! So, from my side, it works perfectly. Thanks my friend once again. :) __________________ :) BT - A Place for Bangla Monoronnjon :) | 10-23-2005, 11:14 AM | | Deferential BT Legend | | Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: Minnesota, USA Posts: 527 Thanks: 37 Thanked 233 Times in 34 Posts Rep Power: 32 UL: 153.59 gb DL: 74.06 gb Ratio: 2.07 | | Quote: | Originally Posted by redneck Ok, I have tested it out. Thanks my friend once again. :) | That's very impressive! The size dropped 72%. If the resulting quality is 80% of the source then it's lot economical. How long did it take to convert 72MB mpeg file? __________________ Hello, R U CDng? | 10-23-2005, 02:06 PM | | Super Moderator | | Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: Malmö, Sweden. Thanks my friend once again. :) | very interesting to know that it worked and i feel successful after spending so much time to write the tutorial. I found a few tutorials on the web but they all are for older versions and outdated of course. this one i wrote is for the latest version of VirtualDubMod (v.1.6.11). thanks you all for your feedbacks and appreciations. I would welcome all feedback, even if you have any problem then I would be able to edit the tutorial. thanks again. __________________ _______ TeolABM | 10-23-2005, 11:09 PM | | Retired Mod | | Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: Canada Posts: 820 Thanks: 119 Thanked 423 Times in 53 Posts Rep Power: 38 UL: 94.80 gb DL: 87.21 gb Ratio: 1.09 | | Quote: | Originally Posted by mehdianis That's very impressive!
