Birth Name : Arun Kumar Chatterjee

Uttam Kumar(3 September 1926 ) was a legendary Bengali actor.
He is fondly called the Mahanayak of Bengali cinema.
First acted in the film "Mayador" which failed to release.
Uttam's first released film was Drishtidan (The gift of sight) directed by Nitin Bose.
Uttam Kumar was the first ever Actor recipient of the National Awards for Best Actor Award for his performances in Chiriakhana directed by Satyajit Ray, and Antony Firingi (1968).
A strict workaholic, he was rumored to have said that his preferred demise would be on the floor of a studio, doing what he loved best, acting. Indeed, that is exactly how he died. While filming the Bengali film Ogo Bodhu Shundori in 1980, he died of a massive heart attack at the age of 54.

Suchitra Sen (April 6, 1931) is a Bengali actress who has attained legendary status because of her performances in Bengali cinema.
Suchitra made her debut in films with "Shesh Kothai" in 1952, but the film was unreleased.
Suchitra's first released film was "Sharey Chuattor".
She is the first Indian actress to be awarded in an international film festival (Best Actress award for the movie "Saat Paake Bandha" in 1963 Moscow film festival).
She retired from the screen in 1978 after a career of over 25 years to a life of quiet seclusion. She has avoided the public gaze after her retirement and has devoted her time to the Ramkrishna Mission.

Uttamkumar and Suchitra Sen created an enduring romantic duo with sparkling screen magic in Bengali cinema.
They were a hugely successful pairing in romantic melodramas and have been again compared to Hollywood cinema as the Tracy and Hepburn of Bengali cinema.
