I use the Hauppauge
WinTV-PVR-250 to capture the feed from the satellite decoder. This card does on-board hardware MPEG2 encoding. I then use
TMPGEnc MPEG Editor to edit out the ads. Finally, AutoGK is used to convert it to XviD. Generally, I prefer higher quality over disk space and as a general rule use 5.5MB per minute of audio/video in setting the custom size value of AutoGK.
