    Synopsis:
Bipasha (Indrani Haldar), a high class call-girl, returns one late night to find an old man (Soumitra Chatterje) outside her door. He is suffering from lapse of memory. As she sees the old man fumbling his way through the traffic, it brings back memories of her own father who was run over by a speeding vehicle when he went out in a state of depression. She brings him home. The next morning she is confronted with a dilemma. What does she do with a helpless old man who shows a great deal of trust and dependence on her? How long can she harbour him? She seeks the assistance of a young doctor, Aniket Mukherjee (Koushik Sen) who finds that he has Alzheimer's disease. Together they start to take care of the old man. Even as her own profession threatens to interfere, the call girl, the doctor, and the old man find a new relationship developing...

    Comments:
This telefilm (originally broadcast by Tara) was probably the first film of Atanu Ghosh, who later went on to give us the brilliant "Angshumaner Chhobi" and it does not disappoint. The interplay of the characters, the subdued lighting, the slightly sombre music score are all there. It was a complex theme, a high-class call-girl with a disturbed background comes in contact with a gentle old man in the middle stages of Alzheimers disease. She calls in a specialist doctor and the interactions of the three slowly evolve from the purely altruistic to a much deeper and meaningful one as they start to appreciate each other.

Despite the brilliant acting by all the thee main protagonists, this is really Indrani Haldar's film. The story really centers around her character, Bipasha and her fascination for a old man, who reminds her of her father. Intertwined into the film are glimpses of her life as a child and later in the escort business. Indrani Haldar's Bipasha is very believable, if a trifle too soft for a hardened sex-worker.

Soumitra Chatterjee as the old Alzheimer patient is brilliant too. He is at once childlike and wise. He remembers snatches of poetry and music and as we see his improvement, we rejoice with the doctor Aniket and Bipasha. In comparison, Koushik Sen's Dr. Aniket Mukherji is less impressive, although I must add it is only in comparison. Biswanath Basu as the pimp is well drawn, even though a few moments of the role could well have been cut - One gets the impression that the Director wanted to do more with this character, but decided to sacrifice it for the sake of the main theme.

One must admire the indoor photography of Sandeep Sen. It is brilliant in soft and subdued lighting.Picturisation in the dark is a little less impressive, if only because the equipment used by him was not p to the mark and shows both pixellation and color bleeding. Editing by Parameshwar Pushti is competent. I did like the musical score of the film and its use of some beautifully rendered songs. The script is very structured, although the ending is a bit predictable. Interestingly, although this was really a telefilm, it has the look and feel of a feature film.

Overall, it is a moving comment on the human interaction between two people belonging to two very different cultural and social worlds. The director takes care not to reduce the relationship between an old man and a young woman to a cliché or a melodrama at any point. It is a tale told well and I enjoyed watching this film.

    Uploader's Notes:
This is not one of my best rips. I have had to leave a black band at the bottom as the subtitles appeared there. Unfortunately, they are hardcoded in the original source and I was not able to remove them. You may also have to turn up the volume a bit. Again, the original audio was barely audible. Still, the content makes up for the shortcomigs of the rip and it is not too bad!
